About Common Law Admission Test

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is the common entrance examination for the National Law Universities of India. It is an online entrance test conducted for admission to law universities. These universities conduct the exam on a rotating basis. CLAT 2018 will be organized by NUALS Kochi. It is a single level test and selection is based on rank-preference criteria of the candidates.

Eligibility for Under-Graduate Programmes

10+2 Examination or equivalent with not less than 45% marks for General and 40% marks for SC/ST and Persons with Disability. (Students taking qualifying examination in March/April are also eligible to apply). This is subject to the reservation at the University concerned.

Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination are eligible to apply for the Test. But the candidate must have passed the qualifying examination at the time of his/her admission.

CLAT 2018 Syllabus

There is no permanent body to conduct Common Law Admission Test, therefore, there is no fixed syllabus. The different subject areas of the Common Law Admission Test are explained as under:

1. English including Comprehension

The English section will test the candidate’s proficiency in the English language based on comprehension passages and grammar.

2. General Knowledge and Current Affairs

The candidates will be assessed on their general awareness including static general knowledge.  Questions on current affairs will test candidates on their knowledge of national and international current affairs of mainstream media.

3. Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability) 

This section will test candidates only on “elementary” mathematics.

4. Legal Aptitude

This section will test candidate’s interest towards study of law, research aptitude and problem-solving ability.

5. Logical Reasoning

The main purpose of logical reasoning section is to test the general aptitude and understanding of aspirant.
